Harvest to meet Westminster for 1A crown

Elgin’s Class 1A schools will square off again for a regional girls volleyball championship.

Harvest Christian and Westminster Christian each won their semifinal matches Tuesday night and will meet in Westminster’s gym Thursday at 6 p.m. for the regional title and a short trip down Randall Road for next week’s Harvest Christian sectional.

Harvest Christian defeated Elgin Academy 25-11, 25-7 as the Lions, who reached the Elite Eight last year, moved their postseason record to 5-1 since joining the IHSA.

Sydney Doby had 7 kills, 6 blocks and 2 aces, while Jordan Sollars added 9 assists, 4 digs and 2 kills for Harvest Christian (28-5). Sarah Kott added 15 service points and 6 aces and Katelyon Floyd had 3 kills, 8 assists, 3 digs, 2 aces and 9 service points.

Westminster Christian d. Alden-Hebron: Claire Spewweik had 6 kills, 8 aces and 4 digs as the Warriors rolled to a 25-10, 25-13 semifinal win. Cassidy Finnegan (9 digs), Savannah Dutcher (5 kills, 5 blocks) and Elizabeth Farwell (10 assists) also contributed to the win for Westminster Christian (21-8).

Class 4A at Rockford East: Erin Lyman had 10 kills and 10 digs and Rachel Kisten added 11 kills to lead Huntley to a 23-25, 25-23, 25-9 win over Belvidere North at the Class 4A Rockford East regional. The Red Raiders (15-18) will take on DeKalb at 6 p.m. Thursday in the regional final. Kelsey DeWulf (7 digs, 3 aces) and Eilish Reagan (9 digs) also contributed for Huntley in Tuesday’s win.
