Algonquin man killed in hit-and-run in McHenry County

Authorities are asking for the public’s help after a 22-year-old Algonquin man was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning in unincorporated Algonquin Township.

McHenry County Sheriff’s officials said John Fennessy was struck on the 600 block of East Main Street, west of Newbold Road. The driver of a vehicle headed eastbound on East Main Street hit Fennessy and fled the scene, police said. The crash happened about 3:30 a.m., Monday.

McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke said Fennessy was walking along East Main Street toward Route 14 in Cary to meet friends.

Authorities do not have a description of the vehicle but Zinke said the offending vehicle has damage to the headlight or foglight. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance in locating the vehicle or anyone who may have witnessed the crash.
