Wheeling Park District Aquatic Center named top water park

According to Crain's Chicago Business, when it comes to beaches and pools, the Wheeling Park District Aquatic Center rates among the top 10 in the Chicago area. Along with two private city pools, Wheeling's Family Aquatic Center was one of only two water parks featured in the July 30, 2012, article on the Chicago area's 10 best beaches and pools.

“Hot days call for special places to cool off,” wrote Crain's reporter Anne Moore. “With 26 miles of lakefront, national and state parks outside the city, and countless pools, there are lots of choices. We choose the best.”

The Aquatic Center's zero-depth pool leads to waterfalls, tube and body slides, two drop slides, toddler slide, lap lanes, and diving board. A water playground with large tipping bucket and splash pool with water basketball and monkey-bar activity pad add to the fun. The water park also features a sand play area, sand volleyball courts, grassy tanning areas, concessions, picnic area, and clean and spacious locker rooms.
