Pool helpers sought
Volunteers are needed for Delnor-Community Hospital's Orthokids aquatic exercise class. The therapeutic class designed for children with neurological and orthopedic conditions who benefit from the properties of warm water to maximize movement and facilitates independence. Volunteers should be high school age and older. The program is held from 4:15 to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Jan. 26-March 5. There will be a one-hour orientation at 4 p.m. Jan. 20 and 22 in the Health and Wellness Center cafe, 296 Randall Road, Geneva. Call Jennifer Simmons at (630) 208-5510.
Ice harvesting program
You can learn how farmers once harvested ice and stored it in their own icehouses during a program from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 22, 24, 25 and 29 at Kline Creek Farm in Winfield. Staff members and volunteers will take to the frozen surface of Timber Lake - weather permitting - and demonstrate the age-old techniques. The program is free. The farm is on County Farm Road, about a half-mile south of North Avenue. Call (630) 876-5900.
U-46 nomination forms
Nominating forms for the April 7 school board election for Elgin Area School District U-46 can be picked up in the office of the board secretary, Patrick Broncato, at 355 E. Chicago St., in Elgin on business days between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A school board candidate's petition must be filed in the same office no earlier than 7:30 a.m. Jan. 20 or no later than 5 p.m. Jan. 26. Three seats on the seven-board member board of are up for election. Candidates must reside within the School District U-46 boundaries which include portions of Elgin, South Elgin, Bartlett, Hoffman Estates, Streamwood, Hanover Park, Wayne, Carol Stream, West Chicago, St. Charles and Schaumburg.
