Wheaton Academy heads to title game

Reaching Wednesday's title game at Glenbard West in its first year there, Wheaton Academy remained unbeaten in the Holiday Classic and on the season, defeating Addison Trail 72-48 on Tuesday. Wheaton Academy (12-0) grabbed a 22-7 lead after one quarter, as Tim Rusthoven scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the first. Luke Johnson scored 16 and Anthony Ritchie 11 for the Warriors. Addison Trail (4-7) received 18 points from Chris Benjamin.

Nazareth 57, Glenbard West 40: With their fate already sealed by the time they hit the court, the Hilltoppers (2-9) struggled mightily against hot-shooting Nazareth (6-7) in the final round of pool play at the Glenbard West Holiday Classic.

Glenbard West's 2-1 record, however, still puts the Hilltoppers in the title game against Wheaton Academy at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Nazareth plays Northside Prep in the seventh-place game at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

"They just kind of packed it inside, and we had a hard time shooting the ball," said Hilltoppers coach Tim Hoder. "They made us beat them from the outside. We had a lot of open shots, we just didn't make any of them."

Glenbard West made 16 of 53 shots from the field including 4-of-18 shooting in the crucial third quarter. Nazareth led 26-21 at the half before using a 17-2 run to build a 20-point advantage.

The Roadrunners, who received eight 3-pointers from five different players, knocked down three straight 3's to boost the lead to 43-23 with 2:46 left in the third quarter.

Ryan Powers led Nazareth with 22 points and 17 rebounds. Tyler Warden paced Glenbard West with 18 points while Michael Mache added 10 points.
