After undergoing a three-month process, Doug Kettel, Schaumburg Park District's superintendent of facility services, earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional designation.
LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. It emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials' selection and indoor environmental quality.
LEED professional accreditation distinguishes building professionals with the knowledge and skills to successfully steward the LEED certification process.
Kettel is the only LEED-accredited professional in the state of Illinois.
• Northbrook resident Gregg Pollack, who's been very active for many years in the Men's Club and synagogue life at Congregation Beth Judea in Long Grove, was chosen as the congregation's Men's Club 2009 Man of the Year. Pollack will be honored at the Midwest Region of the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs annual Man of the Year dinner on Feb. 25, at Congregation Beth Emunah, in Wilmette.
Jim MacCrindle, co-president of Beth Judea's Men's Club, said: "Gregg Pollack's creative and enthusiastic input into all areas of our club has been a driving force for the success of the Beth Judea's Men's Club. There is no man more deserving of being named our Man of the Year 2009 than Gregg Pollack."
