Wauconda ekes out pair

Wauconda's girls basketball team won again. Barely.

The Bulldogs then won again. Barely again.

Tammy Ellis had 12 points and 4 assists, and Lauren Mead added 11 points and 15 rebounds, as Wauconda improved to 11-0 with a 42-39 victory over host Richmond-Burton on Saturday.

It was the Bulldogs' second win of the day on Day 1 of the tournament that is being played at four sites.

Ellis' 17 points and Mead's 15 points, 11 rebounds, 5 blocks and 4 steals helped Wauconda edge Grayslake North 48-47 in the morning.

Kate Martino had 9 points and 3 steals in each game for Wauconda, which needed fourth-quarter rallies in both games to stay undefeated.

Wauconda outscored Richmond-Burton 14-3 in the fourth, while outscoring Grayslake North 17-13 in the final eight minutes.

Grayslake North's Lauren Erickson had a monster game against Wauconda with 19 points and 16 rebounds.

Grayslake North 43, Lakes 27: At Richmond-Burton, the Knights (4-9) received 13 points from Kelsi Leith, 12 from Ali Vlahos (three 3-pointers) and 7 points and 14 rebounds from Kinsey Siler.

Lakes was led by Mary Doupis with 11 points.

Woodstock 53, Round Lake 50: At Woodstock, the host Blue Streaks handed the Panthers their first loss.

Labrenthia Murdock and Amber Phillips scored 20 and 18 points, respectively, for Round Lake (9-1).

Round Lake 49, Burlington Central 42: At Woodstock, Labrenthia Murdock scored 22 points, as the Panthers (10-1) rebounded from their loss earlier in the day to the host Blue Streaks.

Deerfield 56, Carmel 35: At Warren, Colleen Forrest had 18 points for the victorious Warriors.

Carmel was led by Tiffany Hendrickson's 14 points. Jenna Korte had 7 points and 8 rebounds.

Hoffman Estates 68, Vernon Hills 42: At Mundelein, Megan Fischer scored 25 points, as the Hawks snapped the Cougars' three-game winning streak.

Alana Coy sank five 3-pointers and had 17 points for Vernon Hills (4-8).

Libertyville 64, Belvidere 38: At Mundelein, Erin Waehner scored a career-high 20 points for the Wildcats.

Libertyville (6-6, 1-0) also received 11 points apiece from Savannah Trees and Kristy Williams, and 10 from Hannah Walton.

Lake Zurich 46, Stevenson 36: The Bears won the Holiday Showcase game to improve to 11-1.

Stevenson fell to 5-6 with its third straight loss.
