Former park official indicted

A DuPage County grand jury handed up an indictment against the former Bartlett Park District vice president on child pornography charges, according to court records made public Friday. Charles F. Rowe, 61, will be officially arraigned Tuesday. He resigned from office while serving a second 6-year term after his arrest last month. Rowe is free on bond.

Child molester goes to prison

A man was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison for fondling a young relative in West Chicago. Last year, a jury convicted Ramiro Salinas, 21, formerly of the 400 block of East Forest Street, West Chicago, of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. The girl is now 13. Salinas had two prior DUIs. He will be deported after his prison term ends.

Carol Stream vehicle fire

A fire caused up to $300,000 in damages just after 2 p.m. Friday when a semitrailer truck was found in flames inside a commercial garage on the 27W000 block of St. Charles Road in Carol Stream. Rescue workers put out the flames in less than two hours, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials say no crimes are suspected.

Workers accidentally start Lombard garage fire

Firefighters battled a Friday afternoon blaze inside an unattached two-car garage in the rear of 1055 N. Route 53 in Lombard. Investigators determined the fire began after wind blew sparks from a nearby wood-burning stove and ignited debris in the garage. Workers were using the stove for warmth, but they left it unattended during a lunch break. No one was injured. Damage was estimated at $20,000.

Folk music concert set

Humane society gets $1,500

More than 50 dog lovers raised approximately $1,500 for the West Suburban Humane Society early this month at the Hilton Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale during an event themed around the new film "Hotel For Dogs." The event included a wine tasting, silent auction and a visit from two puppies currently up for adoption by the humane society.
