Three gain tenure at McHenry County College

McHenry County College has announced the tenure of three faculty members.

These full-time faculty members just completed a probationary period of three full academic years. While these faculty members benefit from the security of a job at MCC for the rest of their careers, students benefit from the depth of knowledge, teaching excellence, personal qualities and commitment to service these instructors bring to the college.

The newly tenured MCC faculty and the areas they teach include: Beverly Dow, biology instructor; Robert McCord, English instructor; and Cheryl Richards, health-care instructor.

According to Brian Sager, interim vice president for Learning and Student Support Services, the instructors are evaluated in four major areas, including academic preparation, classroom effectiveness, contribution to the college community and participation in community service.

"The granting of tenure represents a significant long-term investment by the board of trustees on behalf of MCC's students and programs," Sager said.

"These faculty members have proven themselves, not only highly qualified in their respective areas of expertise, but exceptionally talented in both the art and science of teaching. We look forward to the individual and collective contributions they will continue to make to the college and our students for many years to come."
