Hardie's bomb lifts CLS; Huntley, C-G notch wins

Senior Kaitlin Hardie launched a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning Friday to lift the Crystal Lake South softball team to a 4-2 win on the road over Machesney Park Harlem.

The Winona State-bound Hardie, who was 3-for-4 in the game, sparked a 3-run Gator rally that broke a 1-1 tie. Liz Adams had tripled and scored in the first for South (4-2).

Senior Emily Mahoney moved to 3-1 in the circle for the season, scattering 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Huntley 13, Hononegah 4: The Red Raiders rapped out 13 hits to win this nonconference game and have now scored 33 runs in their last two games. Leading the offense Friday were Deanna DeBosschere (3-for-4, RBI), Alex Albanese (2-for-3, RBI) and Arianna Albanese (2 RBI). Sam Clemons (3-0) picked up the win despite allowing 11 hits. She struck out four and walked two. The Red Raiders (4-0) take on Byron and Marengo today in a round robin at Marengo. They play at noon and 2 p.m.

Cary-Grove 9, Larkin 6: McKenzie Vaughn was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and had the game-winning hit as Cary-Grove (1-2) notched its first win of the season. Collette Roth was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Katie Berg drove in 2 runs for the Trojans. Emma Gaulke picked up her first varsity win for C-G. Liza Smithberg suffered the loss for the Royals (1-5). Victoria Nino (2B) and Smithberg each had 2 hits for Larkin.
