Martino, Mead carry Wauconda to OT win
Wauconda's girls basketball team won another thriller over Vernon Hills.
The visiting Bulldogs prevailed 52-46 in overtime Thursday night in North Suburban Prairie Division action, outscoring the Cougars 8-2 in the extra session.
Kate Martino scored 6 of her game-high 13 points in the fourth quarter and OT for Wauconda (14-2, 6-1), which edged the Cougars 52-48 on Dec. 2. Martino also had 4 steals.
Lauren Mead added a double-double of 12 points and 14 rebounds. and also had 4 assists.
Amiee Prudhomme chipped in 9 points, 7 steals and 3 assists for the Bulldogs. Tammy Ellis had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals.
Vernon Hills (9-11, 2-5) got a 3-pointer from Alana Coy with six seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
Mallory Feece led the Cougars with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Coy finished with 10 points, while Jessica Schwartz had 8 points and 6 rebounds. Vernon Hills also got good production from Jessica Feece (3 assists, 3 steals) and Jamie Rucks (6 rebounds, 4 assists).
Libertyville 42, Lake Forest 28: The Wildcats won the North Suburban Lake Division game, as Kristy Williams and Katelynn Jennings scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Erin Waehner added 7 for Libertyville.
Marist 52, Carmel 39: Tiffany Hendrickson scored 14 points and Lauren Lehocky added 10 for the host Corsairs, who lost the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
Carmel (11-7) trailed 15-6 after one quarter, was down 26-15 at halftime and 35-21 after three.
Women's basketball
McHenry 57, Lake County 56 (OT): The Lancers fell in overtime, despite 20 points from Megan Wozniak.
Ally Yarc added 15 points for College of Lake County, while Becca Maher had 9 points and 14 rebounds.
CLC fell to 8-12 overall and 3-1 in the Skyway Conference.
Boys swimming
Lake Forest 112, Mundelein 74: Mundelein's Pat Falconer captured a pair of individual first places and swam on a winning relay, but Lake Forest captured the North Suburban Conference Lake dual meet by a final score of 112-74.
Falconer won the 200 IM in a clocking of 2:03.18 and touched first in the 100 backstroke in 57.65 in addition to swimming the first leg of the Mustangs' 200 free relay.
