The World's Best Chocolate Chip Cookie

16 tablespoons shortening (1 stick Crisco)1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar2 eggs1 teaspoon vanilla extract2 cups flour1 teaspoon baking soda1 teaspoon salt2 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (Ghiradelli preferred)1 cup white chocolate chips (Ghiradelli preferred)Heat oven to 375 degrees.In a large mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening until smooth. In a small bowl, lightly beat eggs and vanilla and then add to sugar mixture.In a separate bowl, sift flour, baking soda and salt together and then add gradually to sugar mixture. Fold in chips. Drop on cookie sheets bake about 11 minutes, or until slightly brown on top but not fully cooked.Makes four dozen small cookies or three dozen larger cookies.Nutrition values per small cookie: 145 calories, 8 g fat (3 g saturated), 18 g carbohydrates, 1 g fiber, 2 g protein, 8 mg cholesterol, 80 mg sodium.Peggy Quinn, St. Charles
