Scouting Grant at Antioch

Grant (1-2, 1-0) at Antioch (3-0, 1-0)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last week: Grant def. Round Lake, 43-6; Antioch def. Wauconda, 48-34.

Outlook: Antioch coach Brian Glashagel isn't putting too much stock in his team's undefeated 3-0 record. At least not this week, with Grant on the schedule. The two teams are longtime rivals and always seem to play each other tough. "We thought we had a better team than them a year ago," Glashagel said. "And we went over to their place and stunk up the joint. We had 5 turnovers, they took advantage and won the game and that loss essentially kept us out of the playoffs."- Revenge will be on the Sequoits' minds, but Grant should be geared up for this game as well. The Bulldogs also missed the playoffs last season. To avoid a similar fate, they've got to essentially ace the Prairie Division, especially since they went winless in their two nonconference games. "They'll be tough just like they always are," Glashagel said of Grant. "They run the same type of schemes they usually do. They keep control of the clock, they play good, solid defense and they run hard. Their quarterback (Leo Minne) is their biggest weapon. He's a really good option quarterback. It's like that offense was designed just for him." Minne rushed for 70 yards, passed for 52 yards and scored touchdown last week against Round Lake. The Bulldogs also got 199 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns out of Steven Niewiedzial. - Antioch also typically keeps the ball on the ground and puts up big rushing numbers, like the 247 yards that backs Sam Green, Vinnie Holm and Josh Guadarrama helped roll up last week against Wauconda. But in that game, the Sequoits' passing game also kept pace. Quarterback Tom Sears completed 9-of-12 passes for 201 yards and 3 touchdowns. "(Wauconda) was giving us a lot of loose coverages because they had their defensive backs flying up to try to stop the run," Glashagel said. "When they did that, we just started chucking the ball deep. We've got such a good running game that defenses try to take that away. But Tom and (receiver Brett Prather) are too good not to use that weapon, too. It makes it hard to play defense against us."
