Slam'em Down Sloppy Joes
1 pound 93 percent lean ground beef

tablespoon chili powder

teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

teaspoon cayenne pepper

medium onion, chopped
½
medium green pepper, chopped
1 can (16 ounces) diced tomatoes, including juice

cup ketchup
½
cup dark corn syrup
⅓
cup vinegar
1 tablespoon molasses
½
cup orange juice
½
teaspoon salt
8 hamburger buns
Place a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan or well-seasoned iron or nonstick skillet over medium- to medium-high heat and when hot add the ground beef. Saute the ground beef, breaking it up with the edge of a spoon or spatula for 2 to 3 minutes. Add the chili powder, black pepper, cayenne pepper, onion and green pepper to the pan and cook until slightly softened, stirring frequently, about 3 to 4 minutes.Add the diced tomatoes, ketchup, corn syrup, water, vinegar and molasses, stirring together until combined. When the liquid begins to bubble, reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the orange juice and salt; simmering for 5 minutes more or until slightly thickened.
