Ordering ends Sept. 30.New parent group at U-46:Elgin Area School District U-46 is seeking volunteers for the new Hispanic Parent Leadership Institute. The group is open to bilingual parents of children in grades three through eight who are interested in getting more Hispanic parents involved in district schools. Sessions will be held once a month for eight months during the 2010-11 school year. Informational meetings will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Room 236 at U-46 district offices, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. Walk-ins will also be welcome.Aurora park improvement:Park renovation projects will get under way this fall as part of the Fox Valley Park District's open space plan approved by voters in 2008. One includes the four-acre Cherry Hill Park on Aurora's far west side. A bid of $228,500 was awarded to George's Landscaping Inc. of Joliet for improvements that include a new playground and picnic shelter, ball field upgrades and refurbished basketball courts. A multiuse play field will remain while evergreens will be planted to provide a privacy border for neighboring residences.
