Monday's Fox Valley roundup

Kara Arceneaux went 3-for-4 with a home run, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored as the Jacobs softball team rolled to a rain-shortened 16-2 win at Crystal Lake Central Monday in a Fox Valley Conference crossover game.

Winning pitcher Kelsey Peterson added a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a triple and 3 RBI. Peterson struck out four, walked one and allowed 4 hits in picking up the win for the Golden Eagles (1-1).

CL South 5, Grayslake North 3: Hannah Mahoney's 2-run double in the fifth inning was the game-winning hit for the Gators in this FVC crossover win in Grayslake. Liz Adams added a triple for CL South (3-1) and Shannon McGinnis had a double. Sam Golf was South's winning pitcher, allowing 4 hits with 10 strikeouts.

Schaumburg 13, Larkin 8: The Royals (1-8) committed 5 errors in this nonconference loss to Schaumburg. Megan Johnson was 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and 5 RBI for Larkin, while Kiernan Schock, Lexi Smithberg and Corrine Wimmer each added 2 hits. Maggie Hofmann also contributed a solo home run for the Royals. Smithberg took the loss in the circle.

Yorkville 3, Burlington Central 1: Samantha Gruner had 2 hits and drove in the Rockets' only run in this nonconference defeat. Abby Morrow also had 2 hits for Central (2-4), which committed 2 costly errors in the game. Jet Kein suffered the loss in the circle despite allowing just 5 hits and 1 earned run. She struck out three and didn't walk anyone.

Suspended games: Huntley led Woodstock North 3-1 in the fourth inning when the game was suspended by rain. No reschedule date had been established. ... Cary-Grove's game at Johnsburg was suspended in the fourth inning and will be completed Friday. ... Dundee-Crown's game at Woodstock was rained out.
