Brennan clutch homer lifts Grayslake Central
It's clear the hero was Claire.
Claire Brennan belted a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lift Grayslake Central's softball team to a 5-3 win over Dundee-Crown in the a Fox Valley Conference crossover Tuesday.
Brennan also earned the win, pitching a complete-game 3-hitter. Kati Brew had a triple and 2 RBI.
Lake Zurich 12, Mundelein 2: The Bears pounded out 15 hits, including four for extra bases in the North Suburban Lake Division opener.
Lake Zurich (3-5) was led by Amanda Orchard (3-for-4, 2 stolen bases, 2 RBI); Megan Mattera (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI, sacrifice); Brianna Welbourn (2-for-3, 2 runs, stolen base); Paige Goldberg (2-for-4, double, 3 runs, stolen base); Erin Sweeney (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs); Alli McGinnis (triple); and Tabbetha Bohac (double).
Mattera picked up the win, pitching all 5 innings. She allowed 2 hits, while striking out five and walking three. She did not allow an earned run.
Justina Doll tripled for Mundelein.
Wauconda 12, Round Lake 2: Cara Nance's walk-off homer in the bottom of the fifth ended the North Suburban Prairie Division opener.
Winning pitcher Kayla Stos went 3-for-3 and scored twice for Wauconda (3-3). Brittany Ehmann and Kendra Wedl (3 runs, 2 walks) were each 2-for-2. Alexis Lopez had a pinch-hit triple.
