Operation Click rewards Hoffman, Libertyville students with a new cars
Students from 11 schools had a chance to compete for free cars at an event to promote safe driving, and teens from Hoffman Estates and Libertyville high schools were the winners.
The competition is sponsored by Operation Click, an organization whose goal is to raise seat-belt compliance rates among teenage drivers, and educate them on the dangers of drinking and driving.
The vehicles were awarded at the halftime of the Slaughter Football game at the Sears Centre on April 29.
Cory Liang, a student from Hoffman Estates High School, won a new 2010 Saturn Vue, after she selected the right key and started the car.
The second car, a 2008 Pontiac G6, also donated by Marquardt of Barrington, was won by Paige Schlesinger of Libertyville High School.
If a participating high school achieves an average seat-belt usage rate of at least 90 percent for the year, then one student is randomly selected to be entered into a pool. If the average seat-belt usage rate for the year is at least 95 percent, then two students are selected.
Each student in the pool draws keys for a chance to win.
Participating schools were Libertyville, Conant, Barrington, Elk Grove, Fremd, Hoffman Estates, Lake Zurich, Wauconda and Vernon Hills.
This year, there were 11 finalists, and they had their chance to win the car during halftime of the Chicago Slaughter game on Friday, April 29, at the Sears Centre Arena.
Conant High School was awarded “School of the Year” by Operation Click.
