Chicago Uptown Ministry fashion show, lunch March 19
Chicago Uptown Ministry builds community between people from all walks of life to help bring about self sufficiency, hope and justice in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood.
To celebrate this work and help raise funds needed to continue important community-based services, The Friends of Chicago Uptown and Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois are holding a luncheon and fashion show.
The 2011 Chicago Uptown Ministry Luncheon and Fashion Show takes place Saturday, March 19 at Avalon Banquets, 1905 E. Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village.
The event begins at 10:30 a.m. with a boutique and social hour, followed at noon by lunch, a raffle and the fashion show. The initial list of items being raffled off includes dinners and museum and theater tickets.
Money raised last year at this popular event had a big impact. Funds raised helped Chicago Uptown Ministry:
• Distribute supplemental groceries to 2,340 families and 3,756 individuals.
• Provide nearly 100 children with brand new back-to-school supplies.
• Continue to establish relationships with some of Uptown's most vulnerable residents until they are ready to seek professional addictions treatment.
• Add a licensed clinician in Uptown.
• Continue to host 24 women in an English as a Second Language class. At the close of the 2010 school year, one of the mothers from this group was elected to her daughter's school council.
