Antioch ousts Dist. 117 rival

For real, the Antioch and Lakes girls basketball teams met for the fourth time this season Tuesday night.

This time it was in the state tournament opener for the District 117 rivals.

And this time it was Antioch prevailing, 49-40, in a Class 3A regional semifinal at North Chicago

Andi Potkonjak scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second half for Antioch (17-10), which trailed 25-19 at the break.

Megan Borries tallied all 9 of her points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the fourth quarter for the Sequoits, who outscored the Eagles 20-8 in the quarter.

Jessica Ploss and Lauren Tiffany grabbed 13 and 9 rebounds, respectively, for Antioch, which advanced to Thursday's 7:30 p.m. regional final against top-seeded Grayslake Central.

Lakes (11-17) was led by Ashley Parmly's 10 points and Terese McMahon's nine.

Lakes had defeated Antioch twice during the regular season, the first time in the season-opening Geneva tournament and once during North Suburban Prairie Division play.

Grayslake Central 60, North Chicago 42: At North Chicago, after losing for the first time in 22 games in their regular-season finale against Cary-Grove last week, the Rams started what they hope is a long winning streak in the postseason.

Grayslake Central (25-3), which earned a berth in Thursday's 7:30 p.m. Class 3A regional final, had three players score in double figures.

Alex Scarbro led the way with 16 points. Skyler Jessop added 15 and Rebekah Llorens had 12.

Libertyville 61, Deerfield 40: At Deerfield, the Wildcats, the No. 1 seed in the Mundelein sectional complex, won their school-record 28th game by claiming their Class 4A state tournament opener.

Alex Haley scored 14 points and Savannah Trees added 12 for Libertyville (28-0), which will play in Thursday's 7:30 p.m. regional final against No. 8 Prospect.

Olivia Wilcox chipped in 10 points for the Wildcats.

Libertyville's 1982-83 team, which was a state quarterfinalist, went 27-1.

Wauconda 58, Chicago Sullivan 24: At Vernon Hills, the regional top seed won the night's first semifinal, as Cara Nance had a season-high 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Wauconda (23-3), which also received 11 points from Tammy Ellis and 10 from Melanie Prudhomme, will play No. 2 Vernon Hills in the regional final at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Vernon Hills 48, Regina Dominican 26: At Vernon Hills, the host Cougars improved to 16-11, as Lauren Webb had a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Meri Bennett-Swanson added 15 points, 9 rebounds, 3 blocks and 3 steals. Sydney Smith had 8 points and 7 rebounds, and Abby Springer contributed 5 assists, 4 steals and a 3-pointer.
