A set of competitors have a rough start to their 10-mile journey down the Fox River from the starting line in Mount St. Mary Park in St. Charles Sunday morning for the 50th Mid-American Canoe and Kayak Race. Boats launched every four minutes. Boats also launched from the VFW Post in Batavia for a six-mile race. Everyone finished at McCullough Park in Aurora.

Water droplets cling to foxtail lily buds in a Batavia garden. The perennial plant comes in many varieties and colors, and can reach as tall as 3-5 feet. Each stem is packed with 500-700 half-inch-wide tiny flowers, which bloom from the bottom up.
