War of 1812 veterans celebrated at West Chicago Cemetery

West Chicago, IL: June 15, 2012 - As this year marks the bicentennial of the War of 1812, the West Chicago City Museum will be presenting an event on Saturday, June 30, 2012 which will be a celebration of the lives of West Chicago's War of 1812 veterans. Guided tours will be held at Oakwood Cemetery, located at the corner of York and Oakwood Avenues, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Participants will visit six stations, hearing a brief background of the War of 1812, biographies of the four West Chicago veterans and a summary statement. Hear lively stories of kidnapping and grueling battles. Tours are ongoing, on a first come, first served basis, and materials are appropriate for families.

Light refreshments will be available after the tour in the basement of St. Mary's Church. The tour and refreshments are free, but donations are always welcomed. The Museum would like to thank Cheryl Waterman for all of the hard work she has done researching the West Chicago veterans and putting this program together.
