New Trier sweeps at Elk Grove
In Game 1 of Saturday’s matchup between Elk Grove and New Trier, winning pitcher Brigit Ieuter (6 strikeouts, 2 walks) had a double and 2 RBI and Megan Neuhaus was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the visiting Trevians to a 3-0 triumph.
The Trevians (25-4) are the top seed in the Niles West sectional and went on to earn a sweep of the Grens in nonconference play.
In Game 1, Elk Grove (24-7), seeded No. 2 in the Barrington sectional, was led on offense by seniors Dani Goranson (2-for-4) and Megan Keegan (2-for-3).
Goranson (19-6) struck out eight and walked two while going all seven innings for the Grens.
In Game 2, Eileen Hurley (3 RBI) and Jessica Tetzlaff each had 2 of the Trevians’s 9 hits in a 7-1 victory.
New Trier scored 4 runs in the top first inning before Megan Keegan homered to center with two outs in the bottom of the inning for the Grens’ only run.
Senior Krista Soesbe went 2-for-3 for the hosts, who received 5 strikeouts from pitcher Andrea Starr.
Downers Grove South 3, Hoffman Estates 0: Katy LaCivitia was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Danielle Trezzo had an RBI double for Downers Grove South (21-9, 8-2).
Alicia Bozek (14-6) earned the win and was 3-for-4 with a run.
The visiting Hawks (4-22-1) received 2 hits from Alexis Filler.
Hoffman battled the Mustangs right to the end, getting runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh..
Nicole LaBeck was on third and Sam Acosta on second with two outs when the Mustangs got the final out.
“We had an opportunity,” said Hawks coach Lindsey Hamma. “We were making some solid contact. We carried over our offensive mentality (6 runs) from the Schaumburg game of being aggressive earlier in the count. We have been working on that. This was a good tune up for our final conference games and the postseason.”
Marist sweeps St. Viator: The Redhawks won 18-6 and 13-2 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference doubleheader in Arlington Heights.
In Game 1, Brooke Wycerski had 2 home runs for Marist (17-15).
In Game 2, Haley Richey hit 2 homers, and Wycerski added a home run for Marist (17-15). Kristin Krutcharch allowed just 3 hits and struck out four for the win.
Stevenson 2, Buffalo Grove 1: Feder earned the win over freshman Julia Carmardo (7-15) and the Bison (9-21), who outhit the host Patriots 7-4.
