Buffalo Grove’s Berger pitches in
Buffalo Grove senior Jeremy Berger faced an Elk Grove offense which had scored in double figures in its last three games.
But Berger didn’t just slow down the visiting Grenadiers in Wednesday’s Mid-Suburban East baseball game. Berger shut them down on 2 hits as BG (6-9, 1-1) rolled to a 10-0 win in six innings.
Berger also didn’t have to worry about offensive support as the Bison avenged an 11-1 loss in 5 innings to the Grenadiers (9-4, 1-1) on Monday.
Jimmy Pinakidis went 3-for-3 with 2 triples and 3 runs and Erich Froemming went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI. Richie Zirngibl went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI and Alex Fritz and Mike DiViesti also went 2-for-3 for BG.
Palatine 4, Schaumburg 3 (8 inn.): Palatine (5-11, 1-1) literally picked up a walk-off MSL West win as Scott Schneberger drew a two-out bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning.
That gave senior Kurt Becker his second extra-inning complete-game victory of the season. Becker threw a 5-hitter and allowed 2 earned runs with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks as he threw 64 of his 98 pitches for strikes.
Schneberger (2-for-4) had an RBI single in the third and Nick Roy had a 2-run triple in the fifth to put Palatine up 3-2. Schaumburg tied it in the seventh on a single by Matt Brancato (2-for-3).
Palatine set up the winning run in the eighth when Nick Refka walked, Jarrod Juskiewicz reached on a sacrifice bunt and Eric Scheuermann (2-for-4) bunted for a hit.
Fremd 6, Hoffman Estates 4: Lee Breitzman went the distance as Fremd (8-5, 1-1) broke a tie with a 3-run sixth in an MSL West game with 9 errors.
Breitzman allowed 6 hits and 2 earned runs and had 4 walks and no strikeouts as he threw 74 of his 110 pitches for strikes. Zach Kolakowski started the Fremd sixth with a single, Josh Jyawook reached on an error on his sacrifice bunt and an error after a double steal scored Kolakowski and Jyawook.
Matt Wisniewski followed with an RBI single. Wisniewski also had a 2-run single in the second as Hoffman’s Jimmy Ward allowed only 1 earned run in 6 innings.
Mike Gordon homered to start the seventh for Hoffman (7-8, 1-1) but after an error, Bobby McDonald and Kolakowski turned a double play.
Rolling Meadows 6, Wheeling 5: John Burkiewicz had a tying 2-run triple and scored on a balk in the bottom of the fifth as Meadows (10-3, 2-0) rallied from a pair of deficits for its eighth straight win.
An RBI single by Meadows’ Dan Hendricks (2-for-3) tied the MSL East game in the third. Matt Hendricks went 3-for-4 and Mike Olson went 2-for-3.
Eric Lowe went 5 innings for the win and Jack Milas finished for the save.
Kalvin Thong went 3-for-4 and David Shapiro went 2-for-3 with an RBI double for Wheeling (1-13, 0-2). Eric Bendewald allowed only 1 earned run in 5 innings.
Hersey 7, Prospect 0: Brad Moore and Aaron DeGeorge combined on a 3-hitter as Hersey (10-1, 2-0) completed the MSL East sweep over Prospect (3-9, 0-2). Moore allowed 2 hits and had 2 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 innings.
Sean Reszotko hit a 3-run homer and James Ioratti went 2-for-2 for Hersey.
