Kennedy helps Warren catch Wauconda

His brothers starred on the pitching mound for Warren.

Now Kyle Kennedy has something to boast about as a Blue Devil.

The junior right-hander earned his first varsity win Friday, as Warren rallied for an 11-10 win over host Wauconda in a North Suburban Conference crossover.

Kennedy, the younger brother of Ryan and Sean, both of whom are pitching for Valparaiso University, threw 5 innings in relief. He allowed 3 runs (2 earned) and 5 hits, while striking out 11.

Wauconda (7-5) scored five times in the bottom of the second to take a 7-4 lead and was up 10-6 after four. Shawn Sundquist (2-for-3) blasted a home run for the Bulldogs.

But Warren (5-8) scored once in the fifth and pulled even in the sixth on Adam Glogovsky’s 3-run homer.

In the seventh, Anthony Garza’s single plated the go-ahead run.

Nick Orsilini paced Warren’s 9-hit attack, going 4-for-4 with 2 doubles.

Lake Zurich 8, Lakes 2: Lefty Wyatt Spector went the distance for the visiting Bears in the North Suburban crossover, striking out eight and walking one.

The junior demonstrated “impeccable control,” coach Gary Simon said, and got defensive help from third baseman Jake LaRue and shortstop Joey Pizzolato, both of whom made sparkling plays.

Offensively, Lake Zurich (11-5) got a pair of doubles from Danny O’Connor, one from James DeGeorge and a triple from LaRue. Tanner Kiser went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. Besides O’Connor, DeGeorge and Pizzolato also had 2 hits apiece.

“We played with confidence and it showed on the scoreboard,” Simon said.

Lakes (6-10) got 2-hit games from Chris Hoffman (run, stolen base) and John O’Connor (run, walk).

Antioch 5, Libertyville 1: David Meade struck out 12 in a complete-game effort, allowing just 4 hits, as the host Sequoits won the North Suburban crossover.

The junior Meade, who improved to 3-1, walked four.

Mitch Everett went 2-for-3 for Antioch (7-3), and Adam Harvey had a double.

Grayslake Central 9, Jacobs 3: The host Rams won their third straight, erupting for 6 runs in the third inning of the Fox Valley Conference game.

Junior Kyle Balling continued to swing a hot ball for Grayslake Central (9-5, 3-1), as the lefty hit his first varsity home run in staking the Rams to a 2-0 lead.

Ryan Fontana also continued his hot hitting with 2 hits, and sophomore Matt Loeffl had a pair of hits as well. Nick Hosford added a double and single, and Jon Gurchak had a double too as part of a 12-hit attack.

Brian Karol allowed 1 run on 3 hits over the first 3 innings in picking up his third win of the season. Mike Wiggins and Bill Weinert also saw mound action for the Rams.

“It was important to give Ryan some early run support,” Grayslake Central coach Troy Whalen said. “Offensively, our younger guys are stepping it up and giving us some nice balance in our order.”

Crystal Lake South 14, Grayslake North 0: Zack Geib pitched a five-inning 2-hit shutout for the visiting Gators in the Fox Valley Conference game.

Jake Bigos was 3-for-4 with a triple, double and 2 RBI for Crystal Lake South (11-6, 3-1).

Lake Forest 14, Vernon Hills 2: Brandon Moccia’s 3-run homer in the first highlighted a 5-run inning for the visiting Scouts in the North Suburban crossover.

Chris Marras and Tyler Feece knocked in runs for the Cougars.
