Health Department hosts workshops on new HIV self-testing
DUPAGE COUNTY—The DuPage County Health Department will be hosting community workshops in May to discuss the new over-the-counter HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) self-tests, which are pending approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The workshops will discuss how the option of self-testing may complement existing testing options and how the test works. Discussion will explore ethical issues for counselors, pastors and educators in the professions that have provided support in the past.
The workshops will include an overview of HIV disease trends, community resources and current public health recommendations.
The workshops are scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, and again from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 5. Both workshops will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 515 S. Wheaton Ave in Wheaton. The workshops are free and registration is not required.
The Mosaic Initiative (a program of William Penn House) is co-hosting these events with the Health Department to consider the opportunities available with this new testing option.
