Meadows rolls by Highland Park

Rolling Meadows opened its softball season with a 14-4 victory in five innings over visiting Highland Park on Thursday.

Junior Sara Brunlieb threw a 7-hitter with 6 strikeouts to earn the win after posting a 15-9 mark last season.

Sophomore Chloe Prodanovic (4-for-5, double, 2 runs), senior Natalie Cannizzo (3-for-4, 3 RBI, double, 1 run) and junior Sarah Capario (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs) led the offense.

Senior Josie Suchecki, junior Hannah Whidden and sophomore Lane Winkler each had doubles for the Mustangs.

Fremd 12, Fenton 0 (5 innings): Fremd improved to 3-0 as senior Rachel Doering (2-0) threw a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Senior Megan Hubbard (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs) belted a home run and double while junior Michelle Mazur went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and 2 runs for the host Vikes.

Elgin 12, Hoffman Estates 0 (5 innings): Senior Hannah Perryman threw a no-hitter for host Elgin and hit the game-ending 3-run homer.

Freshman Charlotte Allan started in the circle for Hoffman Estates, which was also playing its first game of the season.

Allan gave up 12 hits and allowed 12 runs, 9 earned. She walked one and struck out two. “She’s a freshman walking out there in the first game as our starter. I was real proud of her,” said Hawks coach Lindsay Hamma. “She maintained her composure throughout. She’s always looking to learn.”
