Meri Bennett-Swanson produced a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, leading lead Vernon Hills’ girls basketball team past visiting North Chicago 73-47 Tuesday night.
The Cougars improved to 16-2 and 8-0 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.
Sydney Smith scored 13 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 5 assists for Vernon Hills. Megan Riehm had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Brie Bahlmann added 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
Wauconda 32, Round Lake 26: The visiting Bulldogs led the entire way in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Diana Enriquez scored a game-high 10 points for Wauconda (7-12, 2-7), which led 4-2 after one quarter, 14-6 at halftime and 19-13 after three. Lauren Nee added 7 points for the Bulldogs.
Round Lake (4-17, 0-9), which got within four points in the fourth quarter, received 7 points apiece from Kaylee Parlogean and Morgan Evins.
Warren 47, Mundelein 26: Amanda Barger came close to reaching a double-double, scoring 6 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils against the Mustangs at home. Alexis Leneau added 13 points, 3 assists and 3 steals, and Alyssa Phillips had 13 points and 5 rebounds for Warren (13-8, 5-4 North Suburban Lake).
Becca Woit and Natalie Busscher each scored 6 for Mundelein.
Woodstock North 51, Grayslake North 45: The game came down to free throws as Woodstock North scored 10 of its 14 free throws in the second half.
Jordyn Bowen led the Knights with 14 points and 3 steals. Kendall Detweiler added 12 points and 2 steals for Grayslake North (14-5, 5-2 Fox Valley Fox).
Lakes 42, Antioch 38: The host Eagles avenged last month’s loss in the North Suburban Prairie rematch played in front of a big crowd.
Lakes (9-11, 6-2) got out to a fast start, going up 13-7 at the end of one quarter.
“We were playing well, working hard on defense and having success against the 1-3-1 zone to start the game,” Lakes coach Pete Schneider said. “Then we got lazy on defense and began to make silly fouls.”
At halftime, Antioch led 19-18.
The second half was back and forth with Lakes finally taking the lead with 3:40 to go in the game on a great pass from Amanda Smith to Terese McMahon, who converted a three-point play.
“That pass coupled with Amanda’s two baseline jumpers in the fourth quarter gave us the spark that we needed,” Schneider said.
Lakes entered the fourth quarter down by 3 points but and outscored Antioch 14-7 to win it.
Nicole Mogged kept Lindsay Gofron scoreless.
“That is a big task,” Schneider said.
McMahon led Lakes with 13 points, while Ashlee Cunningham added 11 and 12 rebounds. Smith had 9 points.
Antioch (10-10, 6-2) was led by Megan Borries with 12 points and Paige Gallimore with 11.
