Cary-Grove’s Freeman sets shot record
Josh Freeman certainly didn’t let the windy and cold conditions bother him.
The Cary-Grove senior claimed first place honors in the shot put and discus at Thursday’s McHenry County meet held at Crystal Lake Central’s Metcalf Field. The running events for the county meet will take place today at Central beginning at 4 p.m.
Freeman heaved the shot put a county record 65 feet, 1 inch and won the discus with a throw of 168-3.
“I was really psyched after I threw the shot 65 feet,” said Freeman, who will compete collegiately at Southern Illinois. “It was an awesome feeling. With the discus, I need to look at some video and see where I can improve. Overall, it was a very good day.”
