Nov. 14: 'Sleeping Beauty' featuring David Gonzalez at CLC James Lumber Center
A multi-media rhymed version of the classic tale of “Sleeping Beauty” will be presented by master story teller David Gonzalez at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14 in the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County in Grayslake. This performance is suitable for students in grades 3-6 and their parents.
Storyteller, musician, poet, actor, writer and music therapist, Gonzalez is a one-of-a-kind artist. Through this production, he enchants the audience with a rhymed verse spin on “Sleeping Beauty.” Set to the piano music of Bach's “Goldberg Variations” and played before an inspired video presentation, he creates a magical multimedia world in which the beautiful (and funky) princess is awakened by true love's kiss...or not!
Gonzalez received the 2011 International Performing Arts for Youth Lifetime Achievement Award for Sustained Excellence, was named a Joseph Campbell Foundation Fellow in 2010 and was nominated for a 2006 Drama Desk Award for “Unique Theatrical Experience” for his production of “The Frog Bride” at Broadway's New Victory Theater. “Sleeping Beauty,” co-commissioned by the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Brooklyn College and The McCallum Theater, premiered in March 2010. He has created numerous productions, including the critically acclaimed “¡Sofrito!” with The Latin Legends Band and “MytholoJazz,” both of which enjoyed sold-out runs at New Victory Theater.
