Crystal Lake South student hurt in homecoming parade

A Crystal Lake South High School student was injured about 4 p.m. Friday after trying to board a moving homecoming parade float, authorities said.

The student tried to jump upon the float — a small utility trailer being pulled by an SUV — but the student’s foot “became entangled with a moving wheel and the ground, and subsequently the wheel rolled over the student’s foot and lower leg,” according to a police news release. The float was carrying parade participants.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to the scene and transported the student to Centegra Hospital — Woodstock. The student was treated and later released.

No citations have been issued, although police say they continue to investigate the incident.
