Meadows' Loughery extends streak to 31

Thirty one and counting.

Rolling Meadows senior second baseman Maryclare Loughery extended her school hitting streak to 31 games on Wednesday as the Mustangs softball team scored its first triumph in the Mid-Suburban East.

Loughery singled to center in the fourth inning of the Mustangs' 5-1 victory over visiting Wheeling.

According to the IHSA records, Loughery ranks fifth on the all-time list behind Casey-Westfield's Sarah Lemond (45), Marion's Allie Hanson (44), Bloomington's Katie Crabtree (34) and Wheaton Academy's Krista Frank (34).

During her streak, Loughery is hitting .524 (53-101).

"It's amazing when you think about," said Mustangs coach Tony Wolanski about Loughery's streak. "What she is doing is very hard."

The previous best run by an MSL player is Barrington's Erin Lernihan, who hit safely in 23 straight games during the 2003 and 2004 seasons.

Sophomore Josie Suchecki, who had a double, struck out four and threw a 4-hitter to get the win for Meadows (8-6, 1-4), which was led at the plate by freshman Sam Anderson (2-for-4, 2 doubles) and junior Abby Matayka (2-for-4).

Scout Scanlon was 2-for-2 Wheeling (2-9, 1-4) with 2 stolen bases.

Schaumburg 6, Palatine 5: Sophomore Alyssa Lancaster struck out six improved to 8-5 when the Saxons (8-5, 3-2) pulled off a game-ending double play (third baseman Theresa McGreevy to second baseman Brianne Lingl to first baseman Becca Thompson).

Thompson (2-for-3) and Jessica Cook each doubled for the host Saxons, who turned two double plays in the game .

Junior Dani Boisvert pitched the final 3 innings in relief for Palatine (10-7, 3-2). The lefty did not give up a run and only 1 hit.

Katie Mnichowicz (2-for-4, triple), Sam Salomone (3-for-4) and Lauren Logan (2-for-4) led the Pirates' offense.

Elk Grove 8, Buffalo Grove 5: Sophomore pitcher Dani Goranson (9-1) struck out eight in the complete game and also went 3-for-3 with a double and 2 runs for host Elk Grove (15-2, 5-0).

Olivia Roback (2-run blast) and Meaghan Keegan hit back-to-back homers over the left-center field fence with two outs in the Grens' 5-run fourth inning.

Keegan became the ninth Gren to hit a homer this season and they now have 15 in 17 games.

Grens second baseman Jessica Balzano extended her hitting streak to 17 in a row while Devan Parkison went 3-for-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBI.

Freshman Elisa Payne also doubled for EG.

KC Dunne (3-for-4, double) and Andrea DiPrima (2-for-3, home run) led the offense for BG (10-7, 1-4).

Prospect 6, Hersey 1: Senior Jen Forssander clubbed a 3-run homer in Prospect's 4-run second inning.

Hanna Lythberg (3-for-4), Nichole Naranjo (2-for-3) and Cassie Poulos (2-for-3) were other offensive leaders for host Prospect (4-9, 3-2).

Junior Sam Mangrum (3-4) got the win with 4 strikeouts.

Kim Ferraro (2-for-3), Alyssa Kieffer (3-for-4), Danielle Becker (2-for-4) and Haley Henriksen (double) led the offense for Hersey (3-13, 0-5).

Fremd 19, Hoffman Estates 0 (5 inn): Kristen Werling (4-for-5, 3 runs 2 RBI), Jenny Schneider (3-for-3, 4 RBI, 3 runs), Kelly Voigt (3-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 doubles) and Alexis Cinquegrani each belted a homer for MSL West leader Fremd (13-1, 5-0).

Werling's round tripper was inside the park.

Senior Lena Brottman (12-1) pitched 3 perfect innings to start the game with 6 strikeouts while freshman Ashlynne Schwantz went the final two, striking out two while facing eight batters.

Other key hitters for Fremd were Tess Dinterman (3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 2 doubles), Allie Gaeding (2-for-3, 2 runs) and Brittany Ciura (double).

Nazareth 2, St. Viator 1: Junior Julie Sweeney (8-2) pitched a 2-hitter in the East Suburba Catholic loss for the visiting Lions (11-5, 2-4).

Nazareth scored twice in the first inning without a hit.

Amanda Presslak had the only RBI for St. Viator in the sixth inning and the second baseman also had stellar game in the field.
