Cary Athlete and Sochi Hopeful Competes at Norge Ski Club This Weekend
United States Ski Jumping Team member Michael Glasder has returned home from Europe to compete at Norge Ski Club's Annual Autumn tournament this Saturday and Sunday. Glasder has been competing in this Winter Olympic Sport since he was age 7, and grew up training at Norge Ski Club through his completion of High School at Cary Grove.
Glasder was named to the U.S. Team in 2009 and narrowly missed an opportunity to compete for the U.S. in Vancouver. He is back not only to compete at his home club, but also inspire younger athletes who are attending from across the country while competing for an opportunity to represent their respective Divisions at the Junior National Championships which will be held in Anchorage, Alaska in March of 2014.
U.S. Ski Jumping Development Team members will also be in attendance. They too, will be soaring off the Large 70 Meter Hill at Norge, competing for Cash prizes, and a place on the podium. Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove is the Midwest stop on a tour that began in Park City, Utah (site of the 2002 Olympics) in August, and will continue on to Lake Placid for the National Championships in 2 weeks.
Michael Glasder will be the highest ranked skier to compete at Norge Ski Hill since the club hosted the “Normal Hill” National Championships two years ago. This event will take place over the course of Saturday and Sunday, October 5th and 6th, kicking off both days at Noon. Donations will be taken for Glasder at the Tournament to help cover training costs and traveling expenses as he fights for a spot on the U.S. Team to represent the Cary Grove Illinois area for the upcoming Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
