Scouting Vernon Hills at Wauconda
Vernon Hills (5-0, 3-0) at Wauconda (1-4, 0-2)
When: 1 p.m., Saturday
Last week: Vernon Hills def. Antioch, 34-0; Wauconda lost to Grant, 48-23.
Skinny: Wauconda will attempt to do what no team has done this year score on Vernon Hills but the Bulldogs might have to do it without prolific QB Brian Kent, who figures to sit out the homecoming matinee. The senior sprained his left knee against Grant but did not suffer any ligament damage, coach Dave Mills said. While Wauconda needs to win to keep alive its playoff hopes, the Bulldogs also don't want Kent (1,036 passing yds., 9 TDs) to risk further damage to his knee. Mills said Wednesday that Kent "probably" will not play Saturday. "But we are hoping," Mills said. "Vernon Hills is a very good team. They have tremendous speed and are explosive on offense. Their defense is perfect. We are playing against a team that is playing great football, which is a credit to the players and the staff at Vernon Hills. We hope to be able compete with them on Saturday." ... Vernon Hills has outscored its opponents 242-0. Cougars DB/WR/QB DaVaris Daniels ended months of speculation this week by giving a verbal commitment to Notre Dame. Daniels and Ohio State-recruit Evan Spencer have scored 11 and 10 TDs, respectively. Daniels also has 3 interceptions.
