Hoffman tunes up for MSL West tests

Hoffman Estates put itself in position to win a second straight Mid-Suburban West crown on Friday night by defeating host Palatine 49-32.

The Hawks (19-4, 7-1) need to win two big games next week with Fremd (18-6, 7-1) and Barrington (13-8, 6-2) next week. If they win both they would claim top honors in the West.

Junior forward Jada Stotts led Friday's win by scoring a game-high 18 points with 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 assists while senior Megan Bernardoni added 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Sophomore Mary Pettit added 7 points and 4 steals and freshman Destinée Young grabbed 4 rebounds.

Freshman Nia Pappas led Palatine (8-15, 0-8) with 11 points and 3 3-pointers.

Stotts and Bernardoni each had a pair of 3-pointers for the Hawks.

Prospect 24, Rolling Meadows 22: Senior Lexi Glennon's rebound and 6-foot basket with six seconds left proved to be the difference for the Knights' win.

Junior Sarah Winans led Prospect (15-8, 4-4) with 7 points. She and Glennon each had 3-pointers for the winners.

Rolling Meadows (11-12, 0-7), which returns to the floor to visit Hersey at 2 p.m. today, was led by Amanda Gunn (9 points). Gunn, Madelyn Conlin and Kelly Adair each fired home 3-pointers for the Mustangs.

"It was a great defensive effort," said Knights coach Martha Kelly. "We've just got to find ways to score. Rolling Meadows is fast and aggressive. He (coach Todd Hatfield) has a nice team."

Schaumburg 48, Conant 46 (2 OT): Sophomore Alyssa Saklak scored a career-high 20 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Saxons (5-18, 1-7) in the MSL West contest.

"Alyssa is starting to mature," said Saxons coach Ashley Berggren.

Senior Taylor Kosla added 11 points for Schaumburg, which returns to action at 11 a.m. today against Maine West in the Sweet Sixteen tourney at Fenwick High School in Oak Park.

Conant (7-17, 2-6) was led by junior Kelly Lomas (19 points) and senior Ashley Lindeman (15).

Fenwick 59, St. Viator 48: Senior Susan Hohenadel led the Lions (16-9, 5-4) with 13 points in the East Suburban Catholic Conference match with state power Fenwick in Oak Park.

Seniors Meghan McGrath and Ronnie Mack each added 8 points while junior Taylor Skala had 6 points with 8 steals and 4 rebounds.

Senior forward Mary Calov scored 5 points and collected 5 rebounds.
