Meadows rebounds; Comerouski hits 1,000 points for Christian Liberty
Rolling Meadows bounced back after losing a tough second-round overtime game to unbeaten Metea Valley to beat Minooka 55-44 in the winner's consolation bracket Thursday at the Hinsdale South Holiday Tournament.
"We came out a little flat," said Meadows coach Kevin Katovich. "There could have been some carry-over from the previous night."
Rolling Meadows (8-5) will play Highland Park for fifth place at 3 p.m. today.
The Mustangs led 27-23 after three quarters before they started heating up.
A free throw by Kevin Burkett pulled the Indians (7-3) to within 33-32 with 4:42 left in the game.
Mike Dolan started a 10-0 run with a 3-pointer. Brian Nelms (15 points, 4 assists) hit a jumper which was followed by Mike Olson's 3. Nelms finished the run with a short jumper and the Mustangs built a 43-32 lead with 3:19 left.
Tyler Gaedele added 12 points for Meadows. Olson and Brian Sabal each scored 7 points. Michael Rose led the rebounding with six.
"The players dug down and found a way to win," said Katovich. "It was a good bounce back."

Christian Liberty 47, Alden-Hebron 40: Christian Liberty senior Luke Comerouski achieved a historic milestone in a historic setting Thursday night.
Comerouski scored his 1,000th varsity point on a fourth-quarter free throw to help seal a 47-40 victory over the hosts in the third game of round-robin play at the Alden-Hebron boys basketball tournament.
Comerouski finished the game with 12 points and 5 assists at the school that was the smallest to win a single-class boys state title in 1952.
Mike Hennek led the Chargers (6-5) with 13 points and Kyle Moriarty added 11 points as they improved to 3-0 in the tourney. They will play for the title at 7 p.m. today.
Prospect 58, Lake Park 47: Mike LaTulip scored a game-high 18 points and was 5-for-6 on 3s as Prospect (6-5) broke away from a 24-23 halftime lead on Lake Park (9-3) in the Wildcat Hardwood Classic.
Devin O'Hara scored 14 points and Brad Reibel added 8 points for the Knights, who play for fifth place at 3:45 p.m. today against St. Viator.
Maine West 64, Wheeling 56: Conor Hart had 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists as Maine West (5-6) rallied from deficits of 8 points after a quarter and 6 points at halftime in the Wildcat Hardwood Classic.
Dylan Carson added 13 points and Kevin Garcia scored 12 and hit three 3s. Maine West had a 20-9 third quarter and plays for 13th place at 10:30 a.m. today against Central Suburban North rival Deerfield, a 53-52 winner over Streamwood.
Jeremy Stephani (19 points, four 3s), Chris Pierro (13 points, 4 assists) and Charlie Kirk (10 points, 7 rebounds) led Wheeling (0-12), which plays Streamwood at 9 a.m. for 15th place.
Waubonsie Valley 64, Conant 49: Mitch Tednes scored 16 points and Joey Ranallo added 11 for Conant (8-5), which plays York at 3:30 p.m. today for 11th place in the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.
WW South 43, Palatine 42: John Millin scored 18 points and Roosevelt Smart added 11 for Palatine (1-11), which faces Perspectives in the noon 15th-place game at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic.
Glenbard West 56, Leyden 35: The unbeaten Hilltoppers (9-0) advanced to the title game of their own tourney. Leyden will play for third at 6:30 p.m. today.
