Lake Zurich’s softball team bounced back from a loss to Warren on Thursday by knocking off Wauconda 12-2 in a North Suburban Conference crossover that lasted five innings Friday.
Paige Goldberg led the Bears’ 12-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Lake Zurich (15-6) got a pair of hits each from Alli McGinnis and Ashley Pettinger (2 runs, stolen base, walk). Kasey Roe contributed a double.
Megan Mattera threw all 5 innings for the win, scattering 2 hits, while striking out five and walking two.
Marengo 4, Antioch 1: The host Indians cooled off the Sequoits, dropping them to 16-7.Marengo took the lead in the nonconference game with a 3-run fourth inning, keyed by Stephanie Cartwright#146;s 2-run triple.Amber Larson drove in Antioch#146;s only run with a two-out single in the sixth. The Sequoits stranded eight runners on base, compared to just one for Marengo.Zion-Benton 11, Libertyville 3: Nicole Kruckman went 2-for-4 for the Wildcats, who fell to 4-16 overall and 0-8 in the North Suburban Lake.
Glenbrook North 9, Stevenson 5: Emma Patrash hit a home run for the Patriots, who lost for the second day in a row.Alyssa Vechiola went 2-for-2 with 2 walks, a run scored and an RBI for Stevenson (11-6-1). Cailin Rubenstein was 2-for-3, and Morgan Manka went 2-for-4 for the Patriots
