Stevenson throws down another triumph

Stevenson's baseball team produced another slam-dunk victory Friday.

And this one included a grand slam.

Brandon Waters provided it, as both he and Erick King (2-run shot) homered in the Patriots' 19-2 win over visiting Wauconda.

King finished 3-for-3, while Kory Cutler was 2-for-3 with a double for Stevenson (11-1) in the North Suburban Conference crossover. Barrett Saks socked a triple, and Tyler Radtke pithed all 5 innings for the win, striking out seven and yielding 2 hits.

Lake Zurich 14, Antioch 3: Dan Johnsen pitched 4 innings of 3-hit ball, allowing a pair of unearned runs, and Kyle Sanders and Anthony Orlando homered, as the host Bears won the North Suburban crossover.

Chris Baumann went 2-for-3 with a double, triple and 4 RBI to pace an 11-hit attack for Lake Zurich. Tim Bavester (double, 2 runs, RBI) was also 2-for-3, while Parker Asmann had himself a 2-for-4 day.

"When we play solid defense, as we did (Friday), our pitching will compete with anyone," said Lake Zurich coach Gary Simon, whose team is 8-8. "Dan Johnsen did a great job coming off arm problems. Our discipline at the plate was the best of the season, and it paid off with an 11-hit attack."

Antioch got a homer from Kevin Smiley. Cameron Jerina had a double in the loss.

Lake Forest 5, Lakes 3: The host Scouts scored all of their runs in the third inning.

Lakes fell to 8-6 with the North Suburban crossover loss.

Mundelein 14, Vernon Hills 2: Ryan Black and Bill McMahon hit home runs, and D.J. Lewis smacked a pair of doubles, as the host Mustangs produced 14 hits in the North Suburban crossover.

Tyler Adams and winning pitcher Mike O'Donoghue both went 3-for-3 for Mundelein (11-2). Ben Mahar added a double.

Vernon Hills scored its only runs on Zach Kisley's 2-run homer in the fifth.

Marian Central 12, Carmel 8: A 10-run fourth inning was the Corsairs' undoing in their East Suburban Catholic Conference game.

Carmel (6-3) got home runs from Alex May and, for the second day in a row, Chris Divarco. Mike Pudlo and Matt Felicelli had doubles.

Jacobs 8, Grayslake Central 7: The visiting Rams committed 6 errors and struck out 10 times in the Fox Valley Conference game.

Jackson White had a 2-run homer for Grayslake Central (10-3), Mike Gentile and Josh DeAngelis hit doubles, and Angelo Gargano contributed a pair of singles.

"Not a good game for the scrapbook," Rams coach Troy Whalen said. "I thought our pitchers (Mitch Tielke and Nick Richter) did a great job in these conditions. Jacobs is well-coached and they made the big offensive and defensive plays when they had to. In the end, they wanted it more than we did."
