Scouting Wheaton North boys basketball
Wheaton North
Coach: Jim Nazos.
Last year: 11-16, 4-10, seventh in DuPage Valley Conference; lost 50-40 to Naperville Central in Class 4A Glenbard East regional quarterfinals.
Top players: Sam Otto, sr., F; Ryan Jordan, sr., G; Andrew Zelis, jr., C; Dan Madhavapallil, sr., G; Isaac Oberlin, sr., F; Matt Biegalski, so., G; Jaylen Howze, jr., F; Zach Gordon, jr., G.
Scouting report: After graduating their top five scorers, the Falcons will be an unknown. Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the team is 6-foot-11 Zelis, a menacing post presence who already has been offered by University of Illinois-Chicago. Otto is the leading returning scorer from last year, but he only averaged 3.4 points. “There’s a lack of experience,” Nazos said, “but hopefully that only takes a few games to get over.” Otto’s a good shooter along with Jordan, the point guard. Madhavapallil is coming off a strong summer performance. A key will be the mixing of three classes. Biegalski, another good shooter, will be a significant part of the rotation. Players like Otto have potential to break out offensively, but scoring by committee will be the norm.
