District 300 to unveil cutsThe Community Unit District 300 administration will make a formal recommendation to the school board on Monday, Jan. 11 on how to cut $6 million from the 2010-11 budget. Officials say there should be few surprises in the proposals, which reflect ideas district leaders have discussed in recent months: staff cuts, a salary freeze, furlough days and cuts to kindergarten music and physical education. "Everything that's going to be presented has been discussed for numerous months," Superintendent Ken Arndt said. "There's really nothing of great surprise." The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Carpentersville Middle School, which is adjacent to the administration center, at 100 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville. The board could vote on the measures in late February.Candidate forumResidents of Sun City in Huntley will have an opportunity to hear from candidates in both the 14th Congressional District and 25th State Senate District from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 12 in the Drendel Ballroom at Sun City. There will be an opportunity to submit questions. Two candidates are running for the Republication nomination to oppose Bill Foster for the 14th Congressional seat. They are Ethan Hastert and Randy Hultgren. State Sen. Chris Lauzen faces a Republican challenger in Sean Michels.Dist. 26 kindergarten registrationCary Elementary District 26 will hold kindergarten registration from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14 in the cafeteria of Briargate School, 100 S. Wulff St., and in the community room at Three Oaks School, 1514 Three Oaks Road. Your child must be 5 years old on or by Sept. 1, 2010 in order to enroll, and you must bring an original birth certificate as proof. You also must provide two proofs of residency: a driver's license and a recent utility bill.
