Arlington Heights native receives prestigious place on Fulbright Summer Institute to the UK
Joseph (a Prospect High School graduate) has been selected by the US-UK Fulbright Commission to experience the UK on a three-week summer programme. The Fulbright Scotland Summer Institute on Technology, Innovation and Creativity is hosted by the Glasgow School of Art and the University of Strathclyde. Students will be led by faculty from both institutions and senior figures from the private and public sectors. From the perspective of Scotland's status as a technological, innovative and creative country, participants will explore Scotland's culture, history, and creative and technological industries. The Summer Institutes form part of the US-UK Fulbright Commission's work to promote leadership, learning, and empathy between nations through educational exchange.
Commenting on receiving the place, Joe said: "I hope this work will enable me to feed my interest in environmental as well as international studies and goal of a career having to do with international environmental law. I was interested in being a part of this program not only due to my family connections and deep interest in Scotland and its history but because of how important the concepts this program focuses on are to my future. I anticipate I will frequently make use of innovation and creativity as well as modern technology in order to address the various problems and challenges that face the world, both today and in the future."
Fulbright Summer Institutes cover participants' major costs and provide them with a distinctive support and cultural education programme, including comprehensive pre-departure guidance, enrichment opportunities in country and an opportunity to be part of the Fulbright alumni network.
The Commission selects participants through a rigorous application and interview process. In making these awards, the Commission looks not only for academic excellence but a focused application, a range of extracurricular and community activities, demonstrated ambassadorial skills, and a plan to give back to the recipient's home country upon returning.
