Know Before You Go (and while underway) - A Weather Course for Boaters
Safety and comfort are essential when boating. Needless to say, the current and future weather conditions are equally important when out on the water. Here is your chance to become a knowledgeable observer and interpreter of the weather.
America's Boating Club of Waukegan is offering an informative Weather course for boaters that is unique not only because it address modern weather forecasting, including the types of forecasts, when to use them, and how to get and interpret them, it also deals with the fundamental atmospheric dynamics underlying the weather events being forecast.
The course focuses on how weather systems form, behave, move, and interact with one another. You will also learn about the availability of all sorts of weather reports and forecasts found online. The Weather course will also be of value to those sitting in their living rooms, as much as those standing behind the helm of the boat.
The ten-session course will be held Wednesdays from 6:00pm - 8:00pm via Zoom, starting on January 12, 2022. It ends on March 16th with a final exam.
The course costs $75 for America's Boating Club members, or $105 for non-members. The course materials include a detailed Weather textbook, three weather maps and a cloud chart.
So why not know before you go and be an all around better and safer boater! We look forward to seeing you in class.
