Dining out: 79¢ pork chop or prime rib sandwich at Perry’s, pumpkin season at STK Steakhouse and more
Where’s the ¢ key again?
Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille is bringing back its #FlashbackFriday celebration with two 79-cent lunch favorites on an upcoming Friday as a nod to 1979, the year Perry’s first opened as a small butcher shop in Houston.
Here’s the deal: Perry’s three suburban locations (Oak Brook, Schaumburg and Vernon Hills) are hosting the Friday lunch celebration where the first 200 guests will get to enjoy either its famous Friday pork chop lunch or the new caramelized prime rib steak sandwich for 79¢. 100 of each dish will be offered.
Which Friday you ask? There’s the catch. We don’t know.
The restaurant will announce the secret celebration date via its social media channels on Facebook (/Perrysdining), X (@PerrysDining) and Instagram (@Perrys_Steakhouse). On the big day, doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and 200 redeemable cards, 100 each for each dish, will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while quantities of each remain.
It’s not just for lattes
Pumpkin season is just around the corner, and STK Steakhouse in Oak Brook is showing that the fall staple can be used for more than pumpkin spice lattes.
STK’s limited-time Pumpkin Season menu features pumpkin dishes, premium steak and seafood, seasonal cocktails and fall-inspired desserts.
Highlights include pumpkin ravioli and crab ($59), king crab scampi ($59) and crab-stuffed shrimp ($68), alongside seasonal sips such as the pumpkin espresso martini ($23) and the pumpkin spice margarita ($23). Fall-inspired sides and sweets include maple-roasted acorn squash ($21) and pumpkin pie ($17).
Hora feliz
Blanco Cocina + Cantina in Oakbrook Center has a new happy hour menu, with food and drink specials available from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The new menu features snacks such as crispy quesadilla chips ($8), chicken taquitos ($10) and tuna tostadas ($12), chicken pastor and chile-lime shrimp skewers ($8-$9) and carnitas, chicken pastor and ground beef tacos ($6).
Drink specials include $8 margaritas, $20 small margarita pitchers and $6 mini frozen margaritas and palomas — or a flight of three for $14, as well as $7 sangria and $5 draft and bottled beer.
National ___ Days
Twin Peaks is celebrating a pair of national food holidays at its suburban locations in Algonquin, Oakbrook Terrace and Warrenville this weekend.
Friday, Sept. 18, is National Cheeseburger Day and participating lodges will serve a cheeseburger and fries for $7.99 all day. Or you can try specialty builds including the brisket-topped Smokestack, the Billionaire’s Bacon burger with sriracha pimento cheese or the avocado smash burger.
And you can enjoy National Queso Day on Sunday with a free order of chips and queso by signing up for the Friends of Peaks club.
Golden anniversary
Garibaldi’s Italian Eatery in Hoffman Estates is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week with a celebration Saturday featuring music, activities and a ribbon-cutting with the mayor.
The eatery offered a week full of 50¢ specials (good thing I found out where that key was). Depending on when you read this, you may still be able to enjoy regular fries on Wednesday, Italian ice on Thursday and cookies on Friday all for 50¢ (one per customer).
Saturday’s celebration runs from 4-8 p.m. and features kids’ activities until 6 p.m., a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at 5:30 and music on the lawn from The Chicago Experience from 6-8 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket.
Hot dog!
Congratulations to BellaLukes in Lake Zurich for being inducted into the Vienna Beef Hot Dog Hall of Fame Monday.
The hall was created in 2006 to recognize loyal vendors that have become landmarks in their neighborhood through outstanding customer service, community leadership, operational longevity, philanthropic efforts and devotion to quality operations.
BellaLukes, which has been around for 22 years, is the 159th vendor nationwide to have been enshrined.
