Dining out: National Filet Mignon Day deals, sundae tower at The Greggory and more

National Filet Mignon Day

Thursday, Aug. 13, is National Filet Mignon Day and, of course, there are a few deals available at suburban restaurants.

Eddie Merlot’s, with locations in Burr Ridge, Lincolnshire and Warrenville, is offering the Reserve Pairing all month featuring an 8-ounce filet mignon and a glass of wine for $63. The offer is available for dine-in, and the wines include Chalk Hill chardonnay, Justin Rosé and Caymus-Suisin “The Walking Fool” red blend.

Sullivan’s Steakhouse in Naperville, which is owned by the same hospitality group as Eddie Merlot’s, is offering the same deal but calling it Sip & Sear. It’s also available during August with the same choices and price.

Morton’s the Steakhouse is touting A Sandwich Worth Celebrating from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, offering $2 filet sliders in the bar (maximum eight per person). Suburban locations are in Naperville, Northbrook, Rosemont and Schaumburg.

Build-Your-Own Sundae Tower

Taking a page from its appetizer menu with its popular seafood tower, The Greggory in South Barrington has a way to bookend your meal with a tower for dessert.

The new build-your-own sundae tower features scoops of locally produced strawberry and vanilla gelato beneath a house-made almond cone. From there, guests can drizzle, sprinkle and pile on toppings such as hearth-roasted pineapple, coconut, gummy bears, chocolate fudge, butterscotch, peanut butter cups, s’mores crumble, oat crumble, cherries and more.

It’s $8 per person, with a two-person minimum.

Dining among the trees

Enjoy a summer evening dining alfresco at The Morton Arboretum during the Farm-To-Table Dinner on Thursday, Aug. 13.

The five-course menu highlights seasonal ingredients from Midwest farms and food artisans and will be paired with spirits from Journeyman Distillery, including Oak Rye Bourbon, their signature collaboration with The Morton Arboretum. A vegetarian dinner option is available.

The 21+ dinner takes place from 6-9 p.m. in the Firefly Pavilion, with music from guitarist Jim Perona. Tickets are available via the arboretum’s website and are $120 for nonmembers and $110 for members.

Afternoon munchies

Up for a late lunch? Emmett's Brewing Company locations have a new half-off lunch entree deal in August. It’s dine-in only, applies to lunch entrées, and diners must arrive between 2 and 4 p.m. Locations are at 128 W. Main St. in West Dundee and 110 N. Brockway St. in Palatine.
