Dining out: National Sandwich Day, Thanksgiving pizza, spooky cocktails and more

National Sandwich Day

Monday, Nov. 3, is National Sandwich Day, and we’ve got a couple of special creations to commemorate the occasion.

Billy Bricks, known for its wood-fired pizza, and acclaimed barbecue joint Soul & Smoke have teamed up to create “Smokey & the Bandwich,” available only on Monday.

The sandwich features Billy Bricks’ freshly baked French bread topped with Soul & Smoke’s hickory-smoked pork shoulder and layered with mayo, melted Swiss and Gouda cheeses, thin-sliced red onion, marinated pickles, shredded lettuce, and finished with Soul & Smoke’s signature Gold Sauce.

Billy Bricks and Soul & Smoke have teamed up on a special sandwich for National Sandwich Day Monday.

It’s $13.95 and served with chips and a fountain drink at all locations of both restaurants. You can find Billy Bricks in Highwood, Skokie, Evanston, Lombard, Wheaton, Oak Park, St. Charles, La Grange and Naperville. Soul & Smoke is in Evanston and also has West Loop and Avondale restaurants.

Fry the Coop is never one to miss out on an opportunity to create an unusual LTO sandwich. This time they’re teaming up with Stan’s Donuts for the one-day-only Maple Long John Hot Chicken Sandwich.

As the name implies, the sandwich starts with a base of Stan’s Maple Long John that’s topped with Fry the Coop’s signature double-fried chicken tender with a choice of heat, to which they add pickles and a spicy butter spread.

The $8.99 sandwich is available Monday at Fry the Coop in Elmhurst, Darien, Prospect Heights and Bolingbrook.
