"Figurative Expressions: Spice of Life" on display at Fine Line

The noble, beautiful human form, inspired by live models, will fill the Kavanagh Gallery at Fine Line Creative Arts Center's next gallery show, opening this Friday, Jan. 9.

Artists who attend Fine Line's "Life Drawing" sessions present their drawings, paintings, collage and other mixed media. This show is free and open to the public.

Monitored by artist Rosalie Vass, the seasonal "Life Drawing" class offers opportunities for beginners to professional artists to draw or paint the sessions' models. Female or male models pose for 5 to 30 minutes while participants work in the media of their choice.

Vass has been the monitor of this studio class for over 6 years. She took over for Rosemary Smillie, who came up with this offering.

Unlike most classes and workshops at Fine Line, "Life Drawing" is actually a studio time as opposed to a class.

"There's no instruction. I set up the room, get the models, and coordinate the gallery show," said Vass.

Anyone is welcome to register for this studio class. Past and current students have formed close connections, and the artists exhibiting in this show have been a cohesive group for quite while.

"We're looking for more members," Vass said, explaining that due to members having moved or passed away, the group is down to 4 people, with room for up to 6 more.

Participating in this "Figurative Drawing" show are George Turner (who has passed away), Nick Freeman, Salvador Ingrassia, Barb Hanson, Mary Powers, Pam McLean, Zaneta Zieba, Susanne Kroeger, and Rosalie Vass.

Fine Line Creative Arts Center is a nonprofit art school offering adult classes and workshops in a range of fine arts. Two galleries are included on the Fine Line campus, featuring local to international artists. For information, visit www.fineline.org.
