Glenbard receives grant to support wellness activities

Glenbard District 87 has been awarded $12,160 to support healthy eating and physical activity initiatives, as part of the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. Fuel Up to Play 60 is a nutrition and physical activity program launched by National Dairy Council, Midwest Dairy Council and the NFL, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Glenbard's four high schools were chosen from among hundreds of schools across the country that applied for funding to help them incorporate sustainable health and wellness initiatives. Funds for Fuel Up to Play 60, provided by the Midwest Dairy Council, will support a variety of activities and tools for Glenbard District 87, such as a fitness fair for students, the Healthy Cooking Challenge during Live Life Well Week and color runs held at several Glenbard high schools.

Members of Glenbard District 87's Wellness Committee applied for the grant funding. The Wellness Committee focuses on promoting and supporting the Board of Education wellness policy and related goals in the areas of student nutrition education and physical activity.
