Christopher Steele Foundation awards scholarships
The seventh annual Christopher Steele Foundation scholarships were awarded to two Adlai E. Stevenson High School athletes at the school's Local Scholarship Awards night.
The scholarships were established in Chris' memory to focus on the sports he loved and played while a Class of 2000 student at Stevenson.
Blake Johnson, who played both offense and defense on the Patriots Varsity hockey team, was presented with the $1,000 "Tough As Steele" Hockey Scholarship and Alex Perry, a pitcher on the Stevenson Varsity baseball team, was presented with the $1,000 Christopher Steele Baseball Scholarship.
The foundation congratulates Blake and Alex and wishes them much success as they further their education at their respective colleges and in all of their future endeavors. The CSF also thanks everyone who participated in a CSF event or supported the CSF in any way for helping make the scholarships possible.
After Christopher Steele, a Long Grove resident, passed away in April 2006 from an inoperable brain tumor, a few friends decided to get together and play a round of golf in his memory.
That foursome grew to 120 golfers and the Christopher Steele Foundation was born. Eight years later, the foundation is still going strong and dedicated to its missions. The foundation is based in Buffalo Grove and is a recognized 501(c)(3) charity. All of the volunteers work without compensation.
