Believe Project: $100 to reward elderly mom's nursing assistant

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Joy Shelus of Elgin.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"Certified Nursing Assistants work hard. My mother is 93 and lives in the memory support unit of a nonprofit nursing home. One of my mother's CNA's. Soni, has seven children. One of Soni's daughters serves in the military.

"Soni changes adult diapers, feeds residents that can no longer feed themselves, changes and washes the clothing of residents who have soiled themselves and many other duties many of us would shy away from while treating each resident with respect and dignity. My mother has short term memory loss but when she sees Soni she tells me, "That woman is so nice." It would be nice to be able to give $100 to someone who works so hard and gives so much of herself."

• The Believe Project will mail a $100 bill each day to someone with a good idea for how to use it to do a good deed for someone else. Email us your pitch of 100 words or fewer (include your name, address and hometown) to specialevents@dailyherald.com.
