Believe Project: $100 to help family wracked by cancer

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Gladys Cruikshank of Hoffman Estates.

Here is an excerpt of her pitch:

"I'm an 89-year-old widow. I've known this family for many years. Within the last several years the couple has both been diagnosed with a form of cancer. She has struggled to continue to work during her treatment. They lost their son and he lost his sister to cancer. She was my daughter-in-law. They have two other children.

I would like very much to give them this $100 to use as needed."

• The Believe Project will mail a $100 bill each day to someone with a good idea for how to use it to do a good deed for someone else. Email us your pitch of 100 words or fewer (include your name, address and hometown) to specialevents@dailyherald.com.
